It's been almost 2 years since HMRC introduced the first phase of Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT businesses.
HMRC recently announced that non-MTD VAT submissions via software providers will not be supported from April 2021 and all VAT filings will be mandated from April 2022.
This means that quarterly VAT periods ending in December 2020, January 2021 or February 2021 will be the last VAT returns you can submit using non-MTD software.
The great news is that Xero is MTD compliant and if you are not already registered for MTD VAT with HMRC then it is easy to get registered.
You can go to your online business tax account for VAT and click the links to sign up for the MTD service.
Alternatively, you can give us a call and we can register you with the MTD service and if you don't have compatible bookkeeping software, we can set you up with Xero which we think is the most cost-effective software on the market, which is why we use it for our own bookkeeping.
